Statement on the 2024 investigation

In 2024, an executive order from the Office of the Governor of Florida transferred an investigation involving Sabina Covo from the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office to the Broward State Attorney's Office, so that the Miami-Dade State Attorney could recuse herself. The order was reported widely at the time.

The Broward State Attorney's Office closed the case on 27 January 2025. No charges were filed.

Why this page exists

The investigation was announced through a governor's executive order and was covered by every major outlet in Miami. The closure was reported once, more than a year after it happened, and only after Covo's attorney contacted the agency for an update.
